Trident: Parliament debates £100bn project – at last

Ewan Macaskill and Richard Norton-Taylor wrote an article in The Guardian about the Trident debate, citing BASIC's Trident Commission report which called the UK's nuclear deterrent “a hostage to American goodwil.”

Iran Risks Rise as Stumbling Talks Push Sanctions Clamor

Paul Ingram, BASIC's Executive Director, was quoted in this Bloomberg article by Jonathan Tirone about the nuclear negotiations with Iran, saying “Failing to reach a conclusion by now was itself a high risk strategy that looks increasingly vulnerable to impatient legislators. The belief somehow that a little more time and patience will bring results is also hard to fathom. Now is a crucial moment.”

The Shadow NATO Summit III: Commitments, Capabilities and Connectivity: Implementing NATO’s new Strategic Concept

BASIC, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the Elliott School of International Affairs, NATO Watch, and Strategy International have organized a two-day civil society Shadow NATO Summit for May 2012 with the support of the Marmot Trust, NATO Public Diplomacy Division, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.

The London GCC Nuclear Workshop

Hosted in collaboration with the Center of Information and Arabian-Russian Studies (CIARS), this workshop of officials and international and regional experts in the field of nuclear diplomacy and strategic security discussed the strategic balance in the region, the evolution of deterrence relationships, the development of non- proliferation commitments and credible assurances surrounding them.
