Roundtable on NATO´s Nuclear Deterrence and Defence: A Nordic perspective

BASIC and Peace Union of Finland will organize a roundtable in Helsinki on April 28th 2011. As part of a series of meetings organised in conjunction with the Arms Control Association and the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg the roundtable will explore the Northen European countries\’ perspective on NATO nuclear deterrence and defence.

Next steps in nuclear negotiations: briefing on Capitol Hill

BASIC held a small, private briefing for Hill staff and non-proliferation experts on March 31, 2011. The meeting covered: negotiating with Russia on next steps in nuclear arms control after New START, the prospects for bringing into force the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), and the capabilities associated with the CTBT to monitor test explosions.

BASIC Trident Commission Launch

The BASIC Trident Commission was launched in Parliament on February 9. The evening demonstrated the Commission’s promise to be the most important initiative on nuclear weapons policy in 2011.
