BASIC in Italy at the Castiglioncello Conference on Conflicts

BASIC Policy Intern Chiara Fargnoli, from the Emerging Voices Network team,
(including Andrea Zavaleta, Lorenzo Piccioli, Natalia Luers and Matteo Bordin) recently spoke at the 21st International Castiglioncello Conference on Conflicts, New Arms Races, and Nuclear Risks – 80 years from Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Chiara’s co-presentation, with Lorenzo Piccioli, analysed the developments and challenges of the European Sky Shield Initiative, a procurement initiative launched by Germany in 2022 as a response to Russia’s invasion on Ukraine. Scientists and experts at the conference discussed new strategies for mitigating nuclear risks and promoting disarmament. The conference highlighted the importance of dialogue and the need to bridge scientific research with diplomacy.
