Upcoming Event: The Emerging Voices Network Plenary Meeting

Plenary Meeting: Wednesday 31st March 15:30 – 17:30 BST (10:30 – 12:30 EDT)

BASIC and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) are delighted to announce the upcoming Emerging Voices Network plenary meeting on 31 March, 2021, 15:30-17:30 BST (10:30 – 12:30 EDT).

Since December, EVN Members have been meeting as Working Groups to develop and deliver policy papers on critical areas in nuclear policy. The Working Groups have worked cohesively to combine their vast array of expertise into insightful and operational policy recommendations in the thematic areas of: Arms Control, Non-proliferation, Disruptive Technology, NPT,  Diversity and Inclusion, Disarmament, Peaceful Uses, and Nuclear Security and Safety. This Plenary will provide an opportunity for Working Group Chairs to discuss their work and deliver concrete policy proposals to an audience of senior leaders in nuclear policy.

Young people have vital and fresh perspectives to the cause of a world free of nuclear weapons and to strengthening the architecture which underpins that goal. As UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, young people have been a tremendous force for change in the world, and have “proved their power time and again in support of the cause of disarmament.”

The meeting will be chaired by Ambassador Kevin Hamilton, Director General of International Security Policy at Global Affairs Canada, with remarks by:

  • UNODA’s High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Ms Izumi Nakamitsu.
  • President-Designate of the 2020 Review Conference of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, H.E. Ambassador Gustavo Zlauvinen.
  • The Chairs of the seven Emerging Voices Network Working Groups
This meeting will take place on Zoom. Please RSVP by contacting [email protected]
