Nuclear Deterrence | Arms Control | Emerging Technologies
Professor Adil Sultan is Dean Faculty of Aerospace and Strategic Studies (FASS) at the Air University Islamabad. He has served in the PAF for over 31 years and retired as an Air Commodore. Dr Sultan has also served at Pakistan’s Strategic Plans Division (SPD) for over fourteen years where he was Director Research and Analysis at the Policy, Doctrine and Strategy (PDS) Branch, and Director Arms Control and Disarmament Affairs (ACDA) Directorate.
As of 2026, Dr Sultan is a Non-Resident Fellow at BASIC. He is a former Visiting Research Fellow, Centre for Science and Security Studies (CSSS), King’s College London, Visiting Fellow, International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), London, and at the Henry L. Stimson Centre, Washington D.C. He is also a member of Asia-Pacific Leadership Network (APLN).
Dr Sultan’s research interests include arms control, nuclear deterrence, and emerging technologies. He is the author of “Universalizing Nuclear Nonproliferation Norms: A Regional Framework for the South Asian Nuclear Weapon States”, published by Palgrave MacMillan London.
Dr Sultan is also the founder of Strategic Foresight for Asia (www.strafasia.com), which publishes policy relevant analysis on security issues.
