Trident gets thumbs up in report that will dismay anti-nuclear campaigners

The Trident Commission, spearheaded by BASIC, launched its concluding report today which is expected to add significant value to the debate on whether or not to keep Britain’s nuclear deterrent.The article focuses on the ultimate conclusion of the report which states that “If there is more than a negligible chance that the possession of nuclear weapons might play a decisive future role in the defence of the United Kingdom and its allies in preventing nuclear blackmail or in affecting the wider security context with which the UK sits, then they should be retained.” However, BASIC does not endorse this point of view and the report itself is far more nuanced.
