James Brady is a Policy Fellow at BASIC whose work focuses on the Nuclear Transparency Inventory (NUTRI). This ongoing project documents the official policies of nuclear-armed states regarding their stockpiles of nuclear weapons, delivery systems, facilities and doctrine.

Prior to joining BASIC, James worked at the Centre for Science and Security Studies at King’s College London, where he focused on proliferation financing. He developed open-source research methods for identifying proliferation-relevant trade from publicly-available information. James has delivered training on the Financial Action Task Force’s standards on proliferation financing with the public and private sector internationally. This includes working with representatives from central banks, financial intelligence units and private multinational financial institutions, primarily in South-East Asia but also with states in the Middle East and the Pacific Islands region. He has also previously worked as an investigator with a boutique corporate intelligence firm in London.

Between 2023 and 2025, he completed a fellowship on the Hague Code of Conduct against ballistic missile proliferation with the Fondation pour la Recherche Stratégique in Paris. He holds an LLM and a BCL, both from University College Dublin (UCD).
