Role Description
The Project Officer will directly support the Project Manager in delivering a project designed to support the achievement of the best possible outcome at the 2026 NPT Review Conference. The project aims to help facilitate consensus and identify areas of possible cooperation among NPT States Parties during a particularly challenging global security environment. In the longer-term, this project will contribute to shaping the agenda and providing clear direction for the following NPT Review Cycle by identifying possible areas of future agreement. Moreover, the project will establish a precedent for increased collaboration between a wide range of nuclear policy stakeholders, serving the broader purpose of inclusive policy making and developing a community of practice.
The Project Officer role will include coordinating a series of online consultations with a wide range of stakeholders, drafting policy briefs designed to be read by government officials, and convening an in-person multilateral dialogue. The project will include significant desk-based research and so an understanding of research methodologies and demonstrable experience of high-quality research is essential. It is expected that the Project Officer will be comfortable drafting written outputs to suit a variety of audiences. Some knowledge on the working of the NPT and NPT politics is also preferred given the focus of this project.
The Project Officer is a highly-motivated early-mid career expert who is comfortable working independently as well as in a team. In supporting this project, the Project Officer will be able to take charge of discrete project tasks independently end-to-end, such as roundtable organisation and report drafting. They will know how to organise their time independently and will have a strong sense of how their work fits into the project they are working on. The Project Officer will already have a few years of experience under their belt and will have begun to carve out a presence for themselves in the nuclear policy field by regularly presenting at various Next Gen forums and publishing regularly in their chosen area of specialisation. They will already have been noted outside of their current role and will have been invited to speak or write for other organisations in the field.
The Project Officer will work with their line manager on identifying a professional development plan for them which will allow them to close skills gaps and become a respected leader in their field. While they are likely to be new to fundraising, they bring innovative ideas about how to tackle certain policy challenges and their strong drafting skills and attention to detail to the fundraising writing process. With support from a more experienced Policy Fellow or their Programme Manager, they tackle first drafts of concept notes and applications and respond well to feedback.
