Next Generation Plenary | Tuesday 2nd August 2022. 1:15 – 2:30 pm ET
Moderated by Dr Togzhan KASSENOVA, and with opening remarks from Mr. KIM Sunghoon, Permanent Representative of ROK to UN, this first event will be a facilitated discussion in plenary enabling dialogue and engagement between young experts and senior leaders on the NPT. It will centre substantively on priorities for the disarmament agenda and the role of young people as experts, activists, scholars and policymakers in disarmament, and will feature five experts from the global nuclear policy community. The speakers will include two youth representatives: Dilan E. KOÇ (Yale University) and Ksenia PIRNAVSKAIA (EVN/CYG), alongside two senior delegates to the NPT from States Parties, Ms Tonie JACQUEZ from the Mexican Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, and Ms. SONG Dahee, First Secretary, Permanent Representative of ROK to UN, both closely engaged with the youth agenda. Youth Working Group Sprint Session | Tuesday 2nd August 2022. 2:45 – 4:15 pm ET
The second event will follow directly from the Next Generation Plenary. Youth participants will be invited to form four working groups, tasked with articulating and prioritising action items for NPT stakeholders across its three pillars alongside the topic of equity, diversity and inclusion. The working groups will utilise this 90-minute ‘sprint session’ to formulate discrete, implementable and innovative recommendations for NPT States Parties to make progress within each pillar throughout the next NPT Review Cycle. Following the Sprint Session, the four youth Chairs will collaborate with the BASIC team to draft a brief summary statement of the recommendations and insights developed by each working group, to be presented as a formal Youth Working Paper in the final side event. Exchange on Youth Recommendations | Thursday August 11th 2022. 1:15 – 2:15 pm ET
For this final Review Conference event, the Chairs from the Youth Working Group Sprint Session will share the Youth Working Paper and their group’s insights, perspectives and recommendations with an esteemed panel of four senior leaders, including Review Conference President-Designate, H.E. Ambassador Gustavo ZLAUVINEN. These senior leaders will have the opportunity to reflect on the recommendations, ask questions and offer thoughts on next steps for the youth community. Register here.
