With the support of the Norwegian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, early career leaders from a variety of regions will act as ‘Youth consultants’ (hereby, consultants) steering a youth/early career consultation on the NPT Preparatory Committee meeting and processes in the lead up to the 2026 RevCon. This will include designing a survey and gathering information from their respective regions on perspectives on the upcoming PrepCom process, and reporting this back to senior stakeholders. The consultation process will result in submissions to member states in the regions, a working paper, and an online event. BASIC and the EVN team will provide support and guidance to all consultants.
The consultation will take place from March to May, with events occurring between May and early-August. Consultants will be expected to participate in 2-3 online events, gather information from EVN members as well as other early career and young experts in their region, and send over a short written report by the beginning of May. During this period, we will also host a whole EVN town hall to facilitate a group discussion.
BASIC will then combine these reports into a longer consultation report, as well as a short working paper submitted to the 2023 PrepCom. The report will be circulated to partners and senior stakeholders in advance of the 2023 PrepCom. There will then be an online side event launching the consultation report at PrepCom, led by the consultants.
There will be 9 spots available, one from each EVN region (where possible), with each consultant receiving an honorarium of £150 as a show of appreciation for their time.
