Beyond 2020: the next 50 years of the NPT

Date: Friday 29 November 2019
Time: 0930
Venue: Royal United Services Institute, Whitehall, London

This workshop will be the first in a series of regional roundtables to exchange views about the future of the NPT as it moves past its 50th Anniversary.

As part of the preparations for the 2020 Review Conference for the Non-Proliferation Treaty, President-Designate Rafael Grossi has launched the “Beyond 2020: The Next 50 Years of the NPT” project. This initiative is designed to foster a dialogue and prepare the future custodians of the NPT to guide the non-proliferation regime through the next 50 years. It is organised around a series of regional roundtables that will culminate in a meeting of next generation experts in advance of the 2020 Review Conference.

The day long workshop will allow participants to creatively and constructively discuss contemporary and future opportunities and challenges facing the NPT, focusing in particular on ways in which the United Kingdom can lead on achieving NPT goals. This discussion will inform a final communiqué to be shared with other regional groups and at the culminating meeting of ‘Beyond 2020‘ next generation experts.
