Evidence submitted by the Nuclear Information Service

AUGUST 2012

Peter Burt of the Nuclear Information Service has submitted a redacted copy of the Defence Nuclear Executive Board’s risk register for the defence nuclear programme, along with an interpretation of the full version of the risk register that predicts the key risks which the Trident replacement programme will face over the years ahead. Many of the risks are complex and will evolve and persist over time, making the Trident programme increasingly difficult to manage. As Burt points out, this risk register is an indication that the the decision to replace or not to replace Trident should be based on wider grounds than security and foreign policy arguments.
