Ambassador Thomas Graham, Jr, joins BASIC board of advisors

The Chairman of the BASIC Council, Professor James O\’Connell, announced today that Ambassador Thomas Graham, Jr, has joined the BASIC Advisory Board. As a BASIC Advisor, Amb. Graham will help guide the organization\’s research and advocacy programs in the field of nuclear non-proliferation.


Ambassador Thomas Graham, Jr, is one of the world\’s leading experts in nuclear non-proliferation and served as a senior US diplomat involved in the negotiation of every major international arms control and non-proliferation agreement for the past 35 years. In 1993, Amb. Graham served as the Acting Director of the US Arms Control and Disarmament Agency (ACDA), and for seven months in 1994 served as the Acting Deputy Director. From 1994 through 1997, he served as the Special Representative of the President of the United States for Arms Control, Non-Proliferation, and Disarmament, and in this capacity successfully led US government efforts to achieve the permanent extension of the NPT. He also served for 15 years as the general counsel of ACDA and later as the President of Lawyers Alliance for World Security (LAWS). Currently, he is Chairman of the Cypress Fund for Peace and Security and Executive Chairman of Thorium Power, Ltd.


BASIC is an independent analysis and advocacy organization which researches and provides a critical examination of global security issues, including nuclear policies, military strategies, armaments and disarmament. BASIC assists in the development of global security policies, policy-making and the assessment of policy priorities, and promotes public awareness and understanding of these policies and of policy-making in Europe and the United States.


With twenty years of experience and governing directors and offices on both sides of the Atlantic, BASIC facilitates the exchange of information and analysis on these global security issues in order to foster informed debate.
