Our Funding

BASIC’s funders enable us to pursue our mission to safeguard humanity and Earth’s ecosystem from nuclear risks and interconnected security threats for generations to come.

Our Funding Ethics

BASIC Statement on Funding Ethics

Approved by the Board of Trustees, November 2024

BASIC is an independent, non-profit think tank whose mission is to safeguard humanity and Earth’s ecosystem from nuclear risks and interconnected security threats, for generations to come. We are a registered charity in England and Wales (no.1001081) and in line with our legal obligations we deliver our charitable purposes entirely and exclusively for the public benefit. We adhere to the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice

BASIC’s intellectual independence is our greatest asset, and BASIC is unwavering in our commitment to protect our freedom of thought, integrity, and impartiality in our research, dialogues, publications, and other outputs. Our independence and integrity is upheld regardless of the funding sources, and we are not affiliated with any political party in the United Kingdom or elsewhere.

BASIC receives funding from trusts and foundations in the United Kingdom and abroad, governments, philanthropists, and gifts from our Friends. We are transparent about our funding sources. BASIC receives no core funding or subsidy from governments, and we refuse funding that is incompatible with our independence and integrity. For a list of our current and recent funders, see above. For a full explanation of BASIC’s use of overheads, click here.

The personal opinions expressed by our employees and consultants are theirs alone. The views of our experts are not necessarily those of BASIC, and BASIC does not take corporate positions on any specific policy issue.
